Are there any special "rules of the road" for the Country Rumble group rides?

All riders must obey the Ontario Traffic Act. Under that legislation, bicycles are considered vehicles so the Act applies. This means that riders must stop at stop signs and stoplights. A rolling stop is not permitted. Failure to do so could result in a fine.

Because bicycles usually travel at lower speeds than a car or trucks, there are two rules of the road to which cyclists must pay special attention:

  1. slower traffic always stays right

  2. slower traffic must give way to faster traffic when safe and practical

When passing other cyclists, always pass on the left and verbalize your intentions. (ie. "passing on your left" or "on your left")

Bike Bell - all bicycles are required to have a bell or horn in good working order.

Helmets - In Ontario, every cyclist under the age of 18 must wear an approved bicycle helmet.  Country Rumble Gravel Rides require all cyclists, adults, and children, to wear an approved helmet.

Are dogs permitted?

Only service animals are permitted at the Country Rumble event, all other dogs not permitted. If you are bringing a service animal, you must also bring documentation from a regulated health professional confirming the animal is required to work with you to service your disability.

Fundraising? Really? How do I do that?

Following the impacts of the pandemic, our community has seen a significant decline in their personal well-being and is facing a "loneliness epidemic" (YMCA Workwell, 2021). This is a fundraising event to support Up and Running Guelph and ensure the continued delivery of our nature-based walking and running programs. Our programs offer a low-cost, accessible tool for participants to manage their mental health and well-being through green exercise and social connections.  Our goal this year is to raise $35,000.

Help us to achieve this goal by setting a goal for yourself and/or your team. Ask your friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers to support your fundraising efforts.

Are tax receipts issued for donations?

Yes. All donations of $10 or more will be issued tax receipts.

What do I do if I need assistance during the group ride?

If you have a serious medical emergency, call emergency personnel at 911. If you have a minor medical emergency or are having difficulty cycling, or have a mechanical problem with your bicycle, call the event headquarters (519) 400 4395 number on your map.

Will there be food available on-site?

Yes. Food and beverages are available to purchase onsite. You are welcome to bring your own snacks and refillable water bottles.

Are there washrooms?

Yes. Indoor washrooms at The Arboretum Centre are available for use throughout the event.
