Chair, Co-Founder
I have always felt happiest outside and can often be found trail running, hiking, cycling, skiing, kayaking or canoeing. Instinctively, I have always known the benefits of outdoor exercise, and I am thrilled that a growing body of research is affirming the connections between green exercise and improved mental health and well-being. In 2008, I collaborated with a local photographer and community members to create an outdoor photography program for kids called Focus on Nature. In 2016, I seized another opportunity to develop and launch a nature-based walking and running program to support women with their mental health.
I have a Master of Social Work in community development and social planning and I have a collaborative approach to leadership. Inspiration for Up and Running Guelph came from the U.K.-based program of the same name (Up and Running), but the Guelph version has grown and evolved over the years thanks to the great commitment and skills of our volunteers, staff, and Board members. Up and Running Guelph is now a charitable organization offering multiple walking and running programs, and I am thrilled to be creating a positive impact on mental health and well-being in our community.
